Texas House Bill 1481 What’s Included Cell/Smart Phones Text Messaging Devices Laptop Computers Smart Watches Tablet Computers Smart Glasses Ear Buds, etc Burton ISD Policy What happened Texas has passed a new law restricting the use of personal communication devices during instructional hours in all public and charter schools in an to effort reduce classroom distractions, and limit cyberbullying and social media in the classrooms. Consequences 1st Offense: Verbal reminder 2nd Offense: Device held by teacher until the end of class. 3rd Offense: Device will be collected and returned to the student at the end of the school day 4th Offense: The device will be held in the front office until an administrative meeting is conducted with the student and parent to address the violation and determine appropriate next steps. After the meeting, the device may be retrieved by a parent or guardian. 5th Offense: Parent/guardian required to pick up the phone for an administrative fee of $15.00. ( Under Texas Education Code 37.082) 6th Offense: Parent/guardian required to pick up the phone for an administrative fee of $15.00. ( Under Texas Education Code 37.082) Any further offenses will result in disciplinary action, which may include lunch detention, before- or after-school detention, in-school suspension (ISS, loss of privileges, or other consequences as determined by the campus administrator. What should Parents Do All student communication should go through the appropriate office, so please make sure your numbers are up-to-date with the school office. Explain to your student that this is no longer a school rule, but a state law. When During the school day: 7:20 am - 3:30 pm In restrooms or locker rooms at ANY time. Disclaimer The school is not responsible for any lost, stolen, broken, or damaged personal devices brought to campus. Students are encouraged to secure their belongings and use caution when bringing valuable items to school. We appreciate the cooperation of students, parents, and staff in helping us maintain a positive and focused learning environment throughout Burton ISD. Testing & Secure Environments All students are strictly prohibited from using Personal Communication Devices during state or campus-wide testing unless explicitly allowed by test coordinators. Violations may result in a voided test and additional disciplinary consequences.

Congratulation to Burton FFA for being recognized as one of the top-performing FFA programs in the state through the inaugural Texas FFA Golden Cup Rankings — a new statewide recognition platform that highlights the most competitive, involved, and well-rounded FFA chapters in Texas. Burton FFA ranked 22 out of more than 1,100 FFA chapters statewide, and ranked 5th among other 2A chapters. This recognition reflects the hard work and commitment of our students, our agricultural science teachers, and our supportive community.

High School Students needing a VOE form or 2025 Seniors needing to pick up their official transcript may do so from the Central Office at any time during the summer. Central Office is open Monday-Thursday, 7 am - 4 pm, with the exception of June 30-July 4, when Burton ISD is closed.
