The Burton Panthers had a tremendous day yesterday at the Shiner Comanche Invitational hosted at Green-Dickson Park in Shiner. Cooler temperatures aided the runners in tackling the challenging, hilly course. The Panthers captured both medals and trophies on the day.
The Lady Panthers ran first. They were led by Paisley Goldberg (Fr.), who finished 2nd in the 1A/2A division and 3rd overall. She was followed by Isis Schulte (Fr.) and Autumn Applewhite (Jr.); all three of whom were awarded medals for their efforts. Rounding out the top five this week were Rose Nall (Fr.) and Jessica Strickland (Fr.). Burton and Moulton were tied in first place on points through the fifth-place runner from each school. The tie breaker came down to the sixth runner of each school, with the edge being given to Burton's Isabelle Alvarado (Fr.), giving the Lady Panthers their first meet victory of the season and their first since the 2024 season.
The Panthers, not to be outdone, matched the Lady Panthers' success. Finishing first for the Panthers and sixth in the 1A/2A division was Zach Purvis (Jr.). Also earning medals for the boys were Klein Rhodes (So.) and Even Guerrero (So.). Rounding out the top five for the Panthers were James Jarvis (Fr.) and Matty Countouriotis (Fr.). While not scoring points, the Panthers were aided by the efforts of Colton Vickers (So.) and Dylan Dallmeyer (Jr.), whose efforts added points to other teams, allowing the Panthers to capture the 1A/2A division title.
After the Labor Day break, the Panthers will next travel to the Moulton City Park for the 38th annual Moulton Cross Country meet on Saturday, September 12th at 8:00 am.
