The Burton Panthers concluded their regular powerlifting season at the Brazos Valley League Meet in Brenham. The Panthers won four separate weight classes to propel them to a second-place team finish. Sophomore Zach Purvis led the way with an 820 combined total to win the 123-pound weight class. He was quickly followed by Andrew Gonzales (So.), who lifted a combined 880 to capture the 132-pound weight class. Both Panthers were joined by Brandon Strickland (Fr.), winner of the 148 weight class with a 920 combined lift. Rounding out the quartet was Hunter Duffy (Sr.), whose 1110 combined total represented his career best in his last regular season showing as a Panther. Joining the Panthers in scoring were Even Guerrero (Fr.), capturing third in the 132s, and Ray Bozarth (Fr.), capturing fifth in the 148s.

Next up for the Panthers is the Regional IV Powerlifting Meet in Navasota on Friday, March 6th. The Panthers qualified four for this week's meet: Sophomore Zach Purvis, ranked 7th in the 123 weight class; Sophomore Andrew Gonzales, ranked 5th in the 132 weight class; Senior Hunter Duffy, ranked 4th in the 148 weight class; and Freshman Brandon Strickland, ranked 12th in the 148 weight class. Lifters finishing 1st or 2nd at Regionals will capture a spot in the State Tournament on Friday, March 27th at the Taylor Convention Center in Abilene, Texas.
