The Burton Panther Debate Team traveled to Hendrickson High School in Pflugerville this past Saturday to take part in the Hawk Classic Invitational. Representing Burton was the Policy Debate team of Autumn Applewhite (So.) and Kinley Frank (So.). The morning started slowly for the Panthers as the duo dropped their first round of debate to Gateway Georgetown by a speaker point score of 51 to 55. Despite a better performance, the second round of debate also went against the ladies, as they faced the eventual tournament champions from Hendrickson, by a score of 55 to 59. The team of Applewhite and Frank found their stride in the third round, as they notched a win against another team from Gateway Georgetown with a 59 to 55 performance. The duo now await the invitational season to close and a determination of their status in the postseason bracket.
