Required Parental Rights Notice
In accordance with Senate Bill 12 (SB 12), Burton ISD must provide parents with information about their rights and options related to their child’s education.
Parents/guardians have the right to:
Direct their child’s education – including courses of study, supplemental services, and advanced coursework.
Review instructional and library materials and request restrictions on their child’s access.
Receive notice of class size and teacher certification status.
Access school options – including transfers, virtual/remote programs, and alternative schooling options.
Be informed about immunizations, gifted/talented programs, promotion, graduation, attendance, grading, and class rank.
Access information about special education and bilingual education services.
Receive notice about student data collection practices.
File grievances or appeals when necessary.
Health-Related Services
Parents will be informed in writing, through the Student Handbook, of the health-related services available at their child’s campus prior to the start of each school year.
Parents have the right to withhold consent or decline any health-related service.
Parents must be notified of any change in services or monitoring related to their child’s mental, emotional, or physical health.
School employees may not provide health services without required parental consent.
