Burton Powerlifting Team

The Burton Panthers kicked off their 2024 Powerlifting season in a big way this past weekend.  The Panthers took 9 lifters to the Giddings Invitational and walked away with 9 medals and a 2nd place overall finish in the Varsity Boys Division.

Avery Applewhite (Jr.) competed in the 132 weight class, finishing 3rd with a combined total of 540 lbs while Katy Whitfield (Sr.) competed in the 220 weight class, also finishing 3rd with a combined total of 610 lbs.

For the boys, in the 123 weight class, Hunter Duffy (So.) and Jackson Morey (Jr.) led the way, finishing 1st and 2nd, respectively.  Duffy lifted a combined 750 lbs and Morey 645 lbs.  Mark Odom made a strong showing in the 148 weight class, finishing 4th with a combined 855 lbs.  In his debut meet, Kolton Lunbeck (Jr.) won the 165 weight class with a 805 lbs combined total.  Hunter Hancock (Sr.) finished 3rd in the same weight class with a 735 lbs combined total.  Keegan Fenner (Sr.) finished 2nd in the 242 weight class with a tremendous 1370 combined total, besting his previous year's Regional total by over 100 lbs.  Rounding out the lifting for the Panthers was Patrick Tavary (Sr.) who finished 4th in the 308 weight class with a 1055 combined total.

The Burton Panthers travel to Taylor this Saturday for the Duck Invitational.  Lifting starts at 8:30 am and tickets must be purchased through the Taylor Ticket website.
