Superintendent's Letter

September 18, 2023

What a great time to be a Burton Panther!!!

During this week which includes September 17, Burton Independent School District will  honor Celebrate Freedom Week (TEC § 29.907) to highlight the values and ideals on which the United States was founded as well as the sacrifices that were made for freedom in the founding of our country. Students will learn about the intent, meaning, and importance of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, including the Bill of Rights. Students will also examine the relationship between the ideas in these documents and subsequent American history.

Celebrate Freedom Week coincides with Constitution Week, established by the U.S. Congress to encourage all Americans to learn about the Constitution. Both Celebrate Freedom Week and Constitution Week focus on September 17, the date in 1787 when delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the Constitution. Congress has also designated yesterday, September 17 of each year as Constitution Day.

Update on Bond Project information as it pertains to the construction of our new facilities:

DSA Construction Management Job Superintendent Rob Ogletree, Project Manager Stad Tomlinson, and Architect for the building project Antonio Naylor reported this week that Hellas finished the forms and sidewalk on the outside of the track, removed the forms, and started trenching for the field drainage. Boothe Construction is moving along with installation of storm drainage on the south end of the field. Moeller Electric is setting Telecon Communication boxes and has run power to the gate. Burton ISD welcomes your involvement, appreciates everyone’s effort to collaborate, and is thankful for your support throughout this process. Please email questions to bondinfo@stu.burtonisd.net.

Please feel free to come visit Burton Independent School District and thank you in advance for taking time to find out more about our schools, our professional staff, our exemplary students, and our excellent academic programs. Lots of great things are going on this school year. Follow all of our activities on the Burton ISD website @ www.burtonisd.net, check out the Burton ISD app, and keep up with the latest happenings on the Burton ISD Facebook page and other social media venues.

The pride of the Burton Panthers is embedded in all of us whether we are a student, an alumni, a community member, a staff member and employee, a parent, board member and/or a proud supporter and in many cases all of the above. We love our Panthers and like to think that the culture we are providing in educating our students is a reason why parents want their children to attend Burton ISD. We value our school district and always put students first. For the 2023-2024 school year, Learning is Llamazing as we Rise Up @ Burton ISD!!! Good luck at the Washington County Fair to all of the Burton ISD students who are participating. Have a blessed day and GO BIG RED!!!
