Superintendent's Letter

What a great time to be a Burton Panther!!!

Welcome to the Burton Independent School District weekly update. Bond Project information will be shared as it pertains to the planning and construction of our new facilities.

Construction Job Superintendent Rob Ogletree and Project Manager Stad Tomlinson with DSA Construction Management report that March and April were very busy on site with Chemical Injections, Underground Electrical, Storm Drainage and Site Work all happening at the same time and on top of each other. Chemical injections were completed on the track and field area in less than three weeks and passed every test required to meet the specifications from Reliance Engineering. The first 6” lift of select fill was delivered and spread after the proctor test came back as acceptable material.

Moeller Electric installed all underground conduit for power and communications through the football field and track area. Trenches and back fill were inspected for compliance with the specifications and passed with no discrepancies. Moeller Electric has placed a materials order to be delivered to the job site upon availability.

The rain has caused several delays in the construction schedule that could not be avoided. There was a total of 6 inches of rain in a two-week period. Even though the surface water may run off or appear to be drying, the sub-surface is still saturated and making for undesirable working conditions. Since there is only a thin layer of select fill, it is not able to be packed to the consistency required to prevent water penetration. Once the water penetrates the select fill, that area must dry completely before more work can be done on that spot. If the soil is disturbed with water on it, the water will be “injected” deeper into the sub-surface and not allow for proper compaction. It is estimated that the rain has caused about a three week delay.

Burton ISD appreciates everyone’s effort to collaborate on this project to keep moving forward. Please feel free to email any questions to bondinfo@stu.burtonisd.net.

Good luck to all of our STAAR and EOC exam takers. Good luck to our Regional Track and Field Qualifiers, Baseball, and Softball. Proud of our student academics and athletes.
