Jamie Smith, Defensive Coordinator
I was born in July 6, 1975 in Brenham, Texas. I attended school at Burton I.S.D. from kindergarten to graduation. After High school I attended college and graduated from Blinn College and Texas A&M University. I then decided that I wanted to pursue a career in teaching and coaching so I majored in Kinesiology/Secondary Education and chose History as a second teaching field.
My first coaching/teaching job was in Somerville, where I was an assistant football, assistant basketball, and Jr.High track coach. After three years in Somerville, I spent four years there as a assistant basketball coach and two years as head basketball coach, as well as coaching everything from cross country to track.
My wife Georgann and I live near Burton. We have two sons, C.J. and Michael. C.J. attends Burton Elementary and loves it. They both enjoy coming to games and supporting the Panthers!
I am very excited about coaching in Burton; we receive a great deal of support from the community and have a hard-working group of athletes with outstanding leadership. These young men are enthusiastic, disciplined, and dedicated to each and our coaching staffs. I expect this to help them succeed in sports, in the classroom, and in life.
Robbie Yanowski, Assistant Coach
I was born in Dallas, Texas on February 5th 1985. When I was twelve years old my family moved to Bremond, Texas. I was on the baseball team that won state my sophomore year, and graduated from Bremond High School in 2003. I attended college at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas and graduated from there in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and minor in secondary education. My first coaching/teaching job was in Cleveland-Tarkington, where I was an assistant football and assistant baseball coach. After one year in Tarkington, I came to Burton to take the Head Baseball job and have spent the next 6 years here in Burton as an assistant football and Head Baseball coach. I love coaching in the small town atmosphere and am excited about this year for Burton and can’t wait to see how this year unfolds.
Kurt Ramsey, Assistant Coach
I was born September 18, 1979 in Wheelock, Texas. I graduated from Denton High School in 1998. After high school I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and attended boot camp at MCRD San Diego that summer. In 2001, my unit deployed to Afghanistan in response to the attack on the World Trade Center in New York. In 2004 I was deployed to Baghdad, Iraq to help provide security for the re-opening of the American Embassy. In July of 2011 I ended my active service in the Marine Corps after 13 years. After exiting the Marine Corps, I re-enrolled in Texas A&M University and graduated in December of 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in History.
From August 2013 to June 2015 I taught and coached in Hearne, Texas. While there I taught World Geography, US History, and Government/Economics. I coached defensive and offensive line at both the junior high and high school. Additionally, I coach basketball, track, and powerlifting, UIL speech, and sponsored a creative writing club.
This summer I was extended an offer to join the teaching and coaching staff here at Burton High School. Having worked with some of the staff previously at Hearne, I readily accepted. I am truly excited about the opportunity to work here in Burton.
